1. CHECK YOUR LOCAL BUILDING GUIDELINES

As much as you would love to get stuck into it and start knocking down walls, in NSW you will need approval from the relevant authorities. Your two options are through Comply Development or your local Council. If you prefer, you can engage a professional to handle the process end-to-end to check your property’s specific guidelines, design and draw up your plans. In NSW, a professional drafter, building designer or architectural drafter can design your home and negotiate your approval on your behalf.

2. FIND THE RIGHT FIT – BUILDING DESIGNER, DRAFTER OR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER?

Who’s the best person for your building project? Great question! Any building project takes time, often up to 12 months, so make sure you like the person you choose and feel like you’re being heard! Each profession brings its own skills to the design process, and it’s good to find someone who specialises in the type of build you need.
